A Chipped Tooth Is Not To Be Ignored.

When one chips his or her tooth, all too often the general chipped tooth repair in san diegoconsensus is “if it doesn’t hurt and no one can see it, then there’s no problem”. Their thought process is that since it doesn’t hurt and the chip is not visible that it’s not something that one has to fix.

This could not be further from the truth.

In my many years of practice, all too often I will get a patient who, due to neglect from a tooth chipping, has to get more extensive repairs done. Whether it’s a full tooth extraction and replacement with a dental implant or a more comprehensive tooth repair than what was originally necessary, the fact of the matter is most of the time these extensive repairs could have been avoided had the patient gotten the chip on the tooth repaired as immediately as possible.

Just because it doesn’t hurt doesn’t mean that there’s nothing wrong. A chipped tooth with invariably weaken, potentially causing the tooth to experience further deteriorate to a point where full breakage occurs. A chipped tooth can get infected – which not only could lead to more of a complicated fix but also could cause more serious problems that can even affect other teeth.

I’m not even going into the fact that a chipped tooth can cut one’s tongue and cheek from it’s jagged edge, causing pain and discomfort that could have been easily avoided.

The point is that teeth get chipped, whether it was by force or from decay, and the best course of action to get it repaired as soon as possible. When you nip it in the bud early you not only will be saving yourself from the potential pain and unsightliness you might be experiencing, but you will also be saving yourself from having to deal with a potential debacle later on.
